Many years ago, from the late '70s through the mid '80s, I worked for one of the largest manufacturers of Cable TV equipment. During those years, I had the privilege of knowing many of the technical pioneers in the industry, men who literally 'wrote the book' on wideband RF circuits. This company was, at one time, very big on the idea of engineers training other engineers, and technical writing was encouraged, even rewarded. In the course of my time there, I came away with some copies of typewritten drafts of classic technical articles on wideband circuit design that I think could be very interesting and educational to the amateur community, and specifically to followers of this group..

Two 'manuscripts' in particular stand out. They are titled "Basic Feedback Amplifier Design" which is a detailed mathematical tutorial on how to design wideband small-signal transistor amplifiers, and "Basic Directional Coupler Design" which is a detailed mathematical tutorial on how to design wideband splitters and directional couplers. This is becoming a lost art, as most people just buy something from Mini-Circuits when they need these functions.

The documents I have are copies of copies, each 15-20 typewritten pages. The original documents are in fair shape (they're 40-45 years old), but in many places they're faded and in some places they're almost unreadable. Overall though they're decipherable, and the information contained within is a treasure trove for analytical types who really want to understand the basics of these things. I'm looking for a couple of knowledgeable and analytical people to help me to 'recover' these documents and put them in electronic form so that others can have access to them.

If anyone would be interested in working with me on this, please drop a line and we can converse off-line. I'd like to keep it to one or two helpers.

Thanks

Joe

Hi,
I'm a bit busy, but if no one else takes the task, i can have a go at it
in bits. I was always deriving mathematical formulae for circuits as a
teenager. I was self-taught in RF/analog electronics before i went to RMIT.

Joe et al,

I have just reconstructed the 36 year old NEC-2 documentation;

Part 1 http://www.commspeed.net/k7qo.NECpart1.pdf

I'd like to help. There is no equation on the planet that I cannot
make pretty using LaTeX and if you look at the 3D graphs, I can do
those too.

Let me know and I'll tell you how to get the copies to me. I'm
good at www.qrz.com in the FCC database.

Ooops. What I get for not proofing a quick note. Off to the
Williams AZ ARRL hamfest.
