I'm contemplating some new projects. I'm wondering if anyone has a source for custom made crystals these days (HC49/HC6 type) and how much they go for?

Thanks

Hi,

I'm recently contacted EuroQuartz http://www.euroquartz.co.uk/ .

I ordered about a hundred custom cut crystals. I can't give you the
price, since all their mail contained the usual business-mail tail about
how important and confidential the content is, and I'd rather not ignore
that :)

But I can give you the hint that they offered me a _good_ price, better
than some expensive stock crystals in my area.

I'm expecting the xtals to arrive around the end of December, so I also
can't review the quality, but what possibly can go wrong? :P

Cheers,

I got 1,000 custom crystals made for $250 a couple of years ago. I did this
through a pal in the USA who had contacts in the business. I had to wait 3
months for them and I am pretty sure that they were made in the far east. I
was really lucky on the price as I had agreed with the supplier for £250. I
don't really want to pass on the contact details for the supplier because
it might have been a "favour" if you see what I mean.

I think most crystal suppliers outsource the work to S.E Asia. It might be
worth taking a look on EBay to see if you can find people selling crystals
who might make them and ask for a price. I source a lot of crystals on EBay
for the common QRP and lower HF band edge frequencies. Typically I'll pay
about $0,30 each delivered to the UK.

You might try Expanded Spectrum Systems in the USA. There is no one I would
recommend in the UK. I heard of a guy being charged by a UK supplier £27
for a single crystal for the 20 meter WSPR band. Whilst that might be OK
for a business to pay it is a lot for an amateur.

If you could tell us the frequency you are looking for may be someone could
help.
