In an effort to learn AVR assembly language programming for the *Kits and
Parts DDS Development Kit I bought a book, Programming Microcontrollers using Assembly Language by Chuck Baird. The book uses an AVR Butterfly as a tool for learning. Steve Weber, KD1JV also used the same platform to come up with a controller for the DDS-60. Having a spare DDS-60 I figured that I would give Steve's project a try. The source code for the Butterfly DDS and additionalinformation is at http://kd1jv.qrpradio.com/page4.html.
The finished VFO uses the Butterfly DDS with a NJQRP DDS-60. I also used a MMIC RF T/R switch that Pete Juliano, N6QW, introduced me to. The Hittite HMC 544 is mounted on a SparkFun SOT23 to DIP Adapter (part# BOB-00717) and switches the rf output of the DDS-60 between the transmit and receive bnc connectors using the cmos logic mentioned on the HMC544 data sheet.
http://www.hittite.com/content/documents/data_sheet/hmc544.pdf The cmos is triggered with the T/R pin of the Butterfly board.
I did a YouTube video that can be found here.

The video is somewhat related to this group in that I also use the HYCAS AGC/IF amplifier and a 30 year old 9MHz BFO from the Progressive Receiver to test the vfo :).

Tom, where did you purchase the Hittite HMC544? Did you have to get it from
the manufacturer? I don't get any hits in Digikey or Mouser.

Nick:
You can order them from the Hittite website.

Hi Nick,

I got them here http://www.hittite.com/products/view.html/view/HMC544
as Dave has already pointed out. They are about 1.50 each. The first two I got were samples and I just ordered ten more. Dave also uses them in his UHFSDR http://wb6dhw.com/UHF-SDR/pre-production/UHF_SDR-sch.pdf

Thanks. Good deal that you can buy in small quantities direct since I
didn't find them at Mouser or Digikey.

I wonder if they're good for 5 watts "CCAS". The spec sheet doesn't mention
power but specifies a +39 dBm 1dB compression point. But in the sales area
they title it a "2 watt" T/R switch. They do have a "10-watt T/R switch"
for DC to GHz but it's over six bucks.

Hittite ... aren't they the guys who invented the iron sword?

Check the performance at low frequencies... might not do well with low
f and high power!
The 10W switch looks nice... even if it cost 5 bucks more!
