I have a question that may be of interest to others. Should a peaking coil be a high Q inductor or a lossy one? RF chokes are designed to provide a high impedance path to RF and are consequently lossy while tuned inductors and transformers are typically high Q (I hope I got that right) so exactly what goes on with a peaking coil?

Happy Holidays to all

Makes little difference. Low Q is ok because the peaking effect is usually
needed to be very broad, so there is lots of resistive load across the coil.

Phil,
I think it depends on the application......the higher the Q the sharper the tuning and less bandwidth. In some applications you want a low Q tuning system.
