I usually compile a list of parts for various projects and order from Digikey or Mouser.

I wanted to order J309 fets in a TO-92 case to supplement my stock. Neither distributor had them in stock; one quoted me a price of $4.00 each!

Apparently the semiconductor manufacturers are discontinuing production of through hole devices. I picked up some SMT versions while they are still available.

If you see thru hole devices at a good price online or at hamfests I'd recommend picking them up.

Try kitsandparts.com.  They have J310 at 12 for $3.

I been doing that for over two years, unfortunately I was unemployed for a while and that cut down the amount of stock I could purchase.

Two other items are going the way of the Dodo which we use in building radios, leaded ceramic resonators, and Ferrite cores.

As an alternative, try the SMD device!
They are easy to solder to a small pice of PCB (or you can add the rest of the components) and preformance should be better than their leaded counterparts.

MMBFJ310 is avaible from several suppliers, and a direct replacement for J310.

Try BGMicro

http://www.bgmicro.com/

They have J309s for $0.71 and J310s with short leads for $0.30.   Other cheap transistors as well.

Hey Ya'll.   I have too many J310  TO-92.    I have 3 batches of 100++ .  One batch labeled ON Semi.  Another batch labeled MFG. FSC and another labeled Fairchild.  I'm getting on up in years and know I won't be able to use all these J310's.  I'd be glad to let small batches of 10 or 25 go for  $0.25 ea plus postage.  I feel like most of these came from Mouser cuz that's where I buy most of my stuff.

I will take 25 J310’s off your hands.

Just let me know how much and I will pay you via paypal if you wish.

Thanks…

Al,

I do have enough left to send ya 25 J310.   You will be the last person to get them because I want to keep a small amount for my own work and I've already made up 11 bags of 25 ea. .  Is your address on QRZ.com good to use for a shipping address???  If not please email me a gud address.   I want to get $0.25 per device and its about $1.20 to ship in a good padded envelope.

25 x 0.25  =  $6.25  plus postage of $1.20  =  $7.45

Please post to the EMRFD group your progress on any J310 circuits.  I'm currently working on a receiver that uses a diode-ring 1st mixer so I need a little bit of gain in the front end.  It'll look sortof like the front end of the SS-40 receiver by 4SQRP Group.  http://www.4sqrp.com/SS40.php

Arrow has J310G for under .08 each....nothing showing for J309.

Who's the manufacturer, and are they covered by ISO9000 or another quality program?

You have to ask this question of the vendor, because there are lots of counterfeit, substandard, or improperly relabeled parts out there.

On another group there's a fairly torrid discussion right now about the latest crop of 572B tubes available on that auction site which shall not be named.  Seems that a lot of unscrupulous folks are peddling rejects or counterfeits from Red China.

To Jim's point - a great blog post about bogus transistors being sold via
eBay auction, complete with functional testing:
